Lone Star Winners who have gone on to publish…

Successful author Dee Davis says;

     “ …your chapter has a special place in my heart.  Yours was the first conference I went to (in 1998) just after joining RWA and then the following year I placed in your contest. …a second place – for The Promise – which went on to be published and won the coveted Prism for best Time Travel.

    “Contests are a wonderful way to give unpublished manuscripts a “test run”. They provide validation and writing credits. Houston RWA’s Lone Star Writing Competition is one of the best.”

     As of this printing, Dee Davis has over a dozen single titles to her credit and is part of several anthologies.

"My first trade paper from St. Martin’s Griffin Press about a matchmaker in Manhattan is coming out.

I’m excited about it – and of course as with anything new, a little nervous!!!"

(A Match Made on Madison, April 3).

Diana Groe wrote: A few years back, I entered the 12 th annual contest your chapter sponsors and was thrilled when my manuscript, ERINSONG, placed 3 rd in the historical category. Placing in your contest was an important step in my career and I want to thank you for providing me that opportunity. I also wanted to let you know that ERINSONG, a tale of Vikings in Ireland, is now published. … Please let your members know that contests are an important stepping stone to publication and I thank your judges and contest coordinators for their generous spirits.

If you would like to read an excerpt and see the beautiful cover Dorchester Publishing designed for ERINSONG, please visit my website at www.dianagroe.com. …

The most unexpectedly beautiful thing about romance writing is the support and camaraderie writers extend to each other. I’ve been blessed and humbled by your chapter’s help. Thank you again.

Janet Maarschalk wrote: In 2004, I was lucky enough to win first place in the Lone Star Writing Competition for Single Title Contemporary for my older heroine story, ONE FOR THE ROAD. The judges were incredibly supportive… Triskelion Publishing bought my book.

ONE FOR THE ROAD is scheduled for release at www.triskelionpublishing.com in their After Hours line on March 15th. I'm also very fortunate to have sold four books to Harlequin Mills and Boon for their Medical Romance line since my contest days!

Teri Thackston wrote: Just entering the 2006 Lone Star contest was such a positive step, requiring commitment and dedication to my writing. Winning, of course, is fantastic, and I’ve found that it opens doors to editors or agents that might not open otherwise. My 2006 Lone Star historical THE ABDUCTION OF MISS JENNY CHANDLER was picked up by Cerridwen Press the Monday after it won – my editor reading it over Saturday and Sunday nights--and it will be published as an eBook in August 2007 and as a print book some time after that. I’ve entered this contest for several years and even when I didn’t final or win. I found the judges’ comments to be invaluable. I definitely recommend this contest to every romance writer.

Beth Trissel wrote: I am very excited to announce that I recently signed with the Wild Rose Press for the release of my light paranormal entitled Somewhere My Love, a 2007 Golden Pen finalist. The entry that placed in the Lone Star was entitled Red Bird's Song and is a Colonial American historical. The Lonestar judges were very helpful and enthusiastic, and it is my hope that the Wild Rose will also be interested in my other works.

My manuscript, “Windswept,” finalled in the 2004 Lone Star Writing Competition.  The book Windswept was published in February of this year by Medallion Press.  I couldn’t have done it without the excellent comments and suggestions of the chapter’s outstanding judges.  I hope Northwest Houston is flourishing.  You have a great contest.  Thank you, fellow writers.
